Each race won rewards the gamer with a balloon, which in the end helps open up newer worlds. Once you find them, and win a multiplayer course, you face the boss again (who's now harder to beat), and race in a speed-heavy trophy competition.
DIDDY KONG RACING VS MARIO KART PLUS
The structure works like this: Race through courses in each world (four basic worlds, plus one bonus world) to open up new courses, then race a boss, who peppers the courses with silver coins, which you need to find and collect. Rare has created its own new characters, a full, Mario-esque overworld (with many sub-worlds worked in), and blends racing with a platform-based world to create a hybrid that really does work. The easiest way to get a grip on this game is to imagine racing through the world of Super Mario 64.
The more we played this game, the more we liked it, despite some annoying new characters (who even grew on us a little). That's good, too, because Diddy Kong Racing answers every one of its critics' calls to arms, and does so in shining form. Easy comparisons between Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing will be made, and, in fact, are forced, nay, even begged by the game itself.
